At St Peter’s CofE Infant School, we are committed to developing racial literacy through the Hemisphere Education programme. This means helping our children and staff to notice, understand and respond to bias, whilst building the skills and confidence needed to form respectful relationships across all cultures and communities.
The Hemisphere approach supports our whole school community in challenging prejudice, deepening our understanding of race and ethnicity, and fostering an environment where every child truly belongs. We provide our staff and pupils with the tools, vocabulary and practical approaches they need to engage in open, respectful conversations about race, identity and justice.
Our work in this area is rooted in careful learning, thoughtful reflection and shared experiences that ensure every child feels recognised, appreciated and included. This commitment reflects our Christian values in action: we support children to flourish as their authentic selves, celebrating the unique identity God has given each of them; we build a welcoming community where everyone belongs as part of God’s family and where all voices are heard and valued; and we inspire our pupils to show courage and compassion by challenging unfairness, honouring the richness of human diversity, and contributing actively to a more just world that reflects Christ’s love for all.
